What 2025 Taught Me and How It’s Changing 2026
Well, 2025 was a huge year for me and my family. My husband and I were reflecting in late December and decided it was no wonder we were both a bit frazzled. We both changed jobs (which was massively stressful and consuming for months), I also did a complete career change from engineering to photography, we took on management of what turned out to be a pretty stressful build at home spanning months and then added the chaos (but joy) of a puppy, plus a load of other smaller things. Time for a big breath and some reflection…
I found December 2025 quite stressful and it really cemented for me that I am my own worst enemy when it comes to self compassion. 2026 is going to have a big focus on rest for me, something which I am not very good at. I have decided that I will focus on working a 3 day week and that I am going to niche into brand photography only. I have found that working with small businesses really excites me. So rather than trying to build two businesses (as family photography and brand photography are two totally different things) I am going to focus on what I like best and enjoy the most, which is working with small independent businesses.
I did a vision workshop early this year with Hannah Buchan and it has really helped me reflect on what I want 2026 to feel like. I have chosen some key words which inspire me and I hope to use it to shape how my year develops. The key thing for me is all about memories. I am done with focusing mainly on the day to day, hamster wheeling it along in a blur of organised chaos. This just makes time pass very quickly. I want to do new things, see new places and make real memories. This is the crux of what I want my 2026 to be.
Business wise I am excited to work with more small businesses and am going to be brave and pitch some people I would love to work with. I also have a number of projects I am keen to get moving which I will share more about along the way.
I am excited to take you along on the journey.
